The Advantages of Cosmetic Injectables are:

  • Safe, effective treatment that provides immediate results.
  • No downtime
  • No need to harvest tissue from another part of the body.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections are made of purified protein isolated from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium through a highly refined, patented process. Upon injection, this safe and effective protein relaxes muscles, allowing the overlaying skin to look smoother. Anti-wrinkle treatments are non-surgical, minimally invasive, simple procedures that are used to treat forehead lines, mid-brow furrows, crow’s feet, down-turned corners of the lips, neck creases and wrinkles. These anti-wrinkle injections have also proven effective in the treatment of migraines and hyperhydrosis (excessive perspiration).

Over time, we develop expression lines (or dynamic wrinkles) as a result of muscle activity such as furrowing or smiling. The anti-wrinkle injection is put directly into the muscles, blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles, thus reducing the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form. Once the muscle is fully relaxed, there is a significant improvement in the wrinkle and those that are mild to moderate in depth may even temporarily disappear. As long as anti-wrinkle injections are maintained at regular intervals, the formation of future lines is also prevented because the movements that cause them are restricted.

They can be used to smooth forehead lines, relax the mid-brow furrow, correct crow’s feet around the eyes, lift eye brows, soften the lines around the neck and lift the corners of the mouth. They can also be used to treat excessive sweating in the underarm area.

In three to ten days, you should see a marked improvement in moderate to severe lines. Lines continue to improve for up to a month and results can last up to four months. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women rated the improvement in their appearance as moderate to better, one month after treatment.

As with any medical procedure or medication, there are variations in individual response from three to six months, the predominant average among most individuals being three. If you discontinue treatment, the lines will gradually look like they did before treatment.

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief, as treatment consists of several tiny injections to the muscles causing your wrinkling. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Most people return directly to work or normal activities immediately following treatment.

A small number of patients may experience slight bruising, headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop, or nausea.

Although the results are visible, a treatment will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look “frozen”, or as if you “had work done.” The muscle activity that causes the dynamic wrinkles is simply reduced. Clients often report being told they look friendlier and more open and approachable without the frowns and furrows.

If you do not continue treatments, the wrinkles will gradually look like they did before treatment.

Dermal Filler Injections

Used to plump out smile lines, lips, depressed scars and moderate-to-deep skin creases and depressions, these gel-based products restore fullness to areas where collagen has been depleted due to the aging process, or trauma. They can also be injected under the eyes to fill hollows and into cheeks to create volume associated with a youthful appearance.

When injected, fillers plump up the face from underneath the skin, actually filling in the hollows and folds. For wrinkles, filler injections produce natural volume under the crease, lifting and smoothing it out. For facial contours, fillers correct deep folds and lift up the skin from cheeks and chin. This provides a fuller shape for the chin or a rounder, more youthful line along the cheeks. When using fillers for lip augmentation, the gel is injected into the inside of the upper or lower lip. It is also injected along the lip line. Not only does this produce a fuller, more youthful look, it can also help prevent lipstick from bleeding into the small lines around the lips.

Dermal fillers are injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts using an ultrafine needle. The procedure is simple and convenient and results are practically instantaneous. The doctor may recommend a dental block (for lip augmentation) to maximize your comfort.

Treatments usually take around 30 minutes.

It is common to experience some swelling in the treatment area, although this subsides within hours to a few days, depending upon the chosen filler, the area treated and the individual. These factors will also influence the degree to which people experience bruising, injection-site redness, or skin irritation. Bruising may be improved with application of topical Arnica cream (available at most health food stores).

You may return to normal activities after your treatment, although it is recommended that you refrain from exercise for eight hours following treatment. Bruising and injection-site redness may be immediately covered with mineral make-up such as gloMinerals, which is specifically formulated for safe, soothing post-procedural coverage.

Depending on the filler used, results can last four to twelve months, but this varies based on each individual’s unique physiology. The filler is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body, so the lines, wrinkles or lips will ultimately return to their previous appearance without follow-up treatments.

Dermal fillers are most effective for the following enhancements:

  • Reducing lines between the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds) and on the upper lips
  • Diminishing acne scars
  • Renewing fullness in the lips
  • Reducing “marionette lines” that run from the outer corners of the mouth to the chin
  • Restoring the natural contours of the cheeks
  • Adding height and definition to cheek bones
  • Adding volume to the chin, which has “dented” or depressed as we lose underlying bone as part of the natural aging process
  • Smoothing jowl depressions or nose bumps
  • Adding volume to the “tear trough” to minimize the hollow appearance beneath the eyes

Absolutely. Although they perform different functions, they are commonly used together. Anti-wrinkle injections have been shown to prolong the effects of the filler.

A consultation with the doctor is necessary to determine the cost, as it depends on the product used and the areas to be treated.
